Eddie, Ed, Edward's Story

Attending Pebblebrook was one of the greatest times of my life. I came to Pebblebrook to make friends that would last a lifetime of which I am eternally grateful. There was a void within me that prompted me to search for enlightenment through hallucinogenic substances, primarily MDA. Thereby through an abundance of substance abuse caused severe neurological damage to the brain and everything stopped. I tried to work at a variety of menial jobs such dishwashing or busing tables for a couple of restaurants, but even the menial jobs were more than I could handle. My Social Security were terminated and vowed never to work again after my benefits were reinstated. Then the miracle happened. It was before Easter Sunday 2006, I accidentally overdosed on prescription medication and herbal supplements. Call it a spiritual conversion, but I knew things were going to be different now. I had to relearn basic living skills, I recognized the need for productivity and began volunteering at a local library, Working at the library taught me the value of accoun...Expand for more
tability and the desire to work. April 2007, I was hired by Catholic Charities as Peer Support, then promoted to Resident Advisor. In the meantime, I graduated with honors from Comunity College, AAS Chemical Dependency Counseling. Enrolled at Davis Bible College for Prison Chaplaincy, however, after taking American History my eyes were suddenly open to the corruptness and oppression that humans do to one another which prompted me to enroll in SUNY Empire State College in the Human Service program. I will have my BS degree in Human Service May 2017. As a volunteer, I have worked in the role of Chaplain's Aide at Broome County and Cortland County Correctional Facilities and Spiritual Care Volunteer at Cortland Regional Medical Center. I am also a writer with published works in Cortland Standard and Tompkins County Mental Health Association "States of Mind" newsletter. In my second year at Tompkins Cortland Community College, I founded and served as president of the first successful Active Minds Chapter in a two-year college Active Minds at TC3
